Description
"Ivory Black" is a color we commonly see in stores today, but what we see in stores is actually more properly known as "Bone Black". Historically speaking Ivory Black was made from charred elephant ivory, today it is made from more common animal bones. Genuine Ivory Black in my experience is very slightly warmer and with a little bit more texture than modern day bone black. This color is a semi-transparent, warm deep black. Great for shadows or painting black objects. The practice of using genuine elephant ivory was banned for ethical/ non-sustainability reasons, but there are a few companies which you can still purchase genuine ivory black (sourced from elephants that died a natural death). It is very hard to find, and it is expensive. My hue is very similar to the genuine color, mine is slightly warmer as I want to accentuate the warm semi-transparent nature of ivory black.
"All of my colors are handmade with only the highest quality pigments and cold pressed linseed oil. My professional oil colors are all formulated to be lightfast, non-toxic, affordable imitations of The World's Rarest Colors. I have used and studied all of the colors that I recreate extensively to achieve this goal. Each color looks and behaves in a similar manner to its historical counterpart, but without the downfalls of the originals.
Made for artists by an artist! "
