Asphaltum (Hue) - Handmade Oil Paint - 40ml

Description

Asphaltum is a color made from a resinous rock found in various places in the world. The pigment source for this historical color is closely related to bitumen. Bitumen was used for the embalming of some earlier Egyptian mummies as well as later 16th-19th century counterfeit mummies. Like Caput Mortuum, Asphaltum is closely associated with Mummy Brown. While Asphaltum is more physically close to Mummy Brown than Caput Mortuum, it too is a different animal. Like the other two mentioned colors, Asphaltum makes for a perfect shadowing and skin tone mixer.
Genuine Asphaltum isn't very often sold in paint form due to its difficult nature as a paint. In oils particularly there are troubles. It has to be prepared properly, otherwise it will never properly dry and the paint may "move around" on the canvas as it dries. It is moderately difficult to find, although not terribly expensive. My imitation has neither of these problems. My hue is a touch warmer than the genuine color.
Asphaltum is a transparent, warm dark color perfect for shadows and mixing flesh tones.
